Refreshing After-School Delight: Homemade Soda with Tea Simple Syrups

There’s nothing quite like greeting your child with a special treat after a long school day. Today, I’m excited to share a delightful homemade soda recipe, featuring unique and flavorful tea simple syrups. Such wonderful and vibrant colors using natural tea leaves which makes these beautiful sodas also dye-free!

Before we get started with the soda here is a simple recipe you can use for the syrups! (I don't always measure the tea leaves, but this is a good base!)

Ingredients For Tea Simple Syrups:

  • 1 cup sugar (for each syrup)

  • 1 cup water (for each syrup)

  • 2 tablespoons dried rosehip

  • 2 tablespoons dried hibiscus flowers

  • 2 tablespoons dried lavender flowers

  • 1 tablespoon dried butterfly pea flowers

Making the Tea Simple Syrups:

  1. Rosehip Hibiscus Syrup:

  • Combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.

  • Add the dried rosehip and hibiscus flowers once the sugar has dissolved.

  • Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes.

  • Remove from heat and let it steep until it cools down. Strain the syrup and discard the solids.

  1. Lavender Butterfly Pea Syrup:

  • Repeat the same process as above, using the lavender and butterfly pea flowers instead.

You can make your syrups the same day or make ahead and store in the fridge! After you have your syrups it's time to get moving on the sodas, when your little sweetie(s) are home from school :)

Assembling the Soda:

  1. Fill a glass halfway with ice cubes.

  2. Pour in carbonated water (we use our soda stream for this!) until the glass is three-quarters full.

  3. Add 1-2 tablespoons of syrup(s) of your choice to the carbonated water. You can adjust the amount of syrup based on your preferred sweetness and flavor intensity.

  4. Stir well to mix the syrups with the carbonated water.

  5. Optional: Garnish glass with fresh fruit or honey and sprinkles on the rim of glass.

Serving Suggestions: This homemade soda is perfect as an after-school refreshment or even as a festive drink for family gatherings. The vivid colors from the butterfly pea and hibiscus make it visually appealing, and the flavors are a wonderful blend of floral and sweet.

Creating your own soda at home is a fantastic way to experiment with flavors and make something truly special for your loved ones. This homemade soda with tea simple syrups is not only a healthier alternative to store-bought drinks but also offers a fun and creative way to unwind after a busy day.
